Flat Roofing Installers
Flat roofing is a highly popular option for roofs, with a number of benefits over a pitched roof. In the past a flat roof was only seen as suitable for areas with low rainfall or little exposure to the elements. But with modern improvements in materials, waterproofing and roofing technology, a flat roof can be perfect for any aspect.
Roof terraces, garages, home extensions or commercial buildings can all benefit from a cost effective, durable solution, without the need for complicated, expensive angled roofs.
Types of flat roof available
Your first step is choosing the type of flat roofing best suited to your property and budget. The three main types of flat roofing we offer are GRP, EPDM and Felt, detailed below. Plus we can also offer alternative solutions such as tar and gravel where requested.
We can visit you to carry out a free, no obligation survey of your roof or review the plans for any extension work. We can then talk to you about the best options to suit your home or business, describing the steps required to achieve the ideal finish. A timeframe will be agreed with you, plus recommendations for supplementary products such as guttering, fascias & soffits that will optimise the longevity of your new flat roof.
GRP Fibreglass flat roofs are tough, flexible and long lasting roofing surfaces, generally applied directly to the dry OSB3 timber roof boards and surrounding edges.
A resin base coat is followed by fibreglass matting, then a second resin coat seals the composite surface. A final fire retardant, heavy duty coloured topcoat (typically black or dark grey) completes the look.
GRP Fibreglass roofs have the benefit that they are one solid application that fills the entire surface with no joins or folds.
EPDM rubber roofing is made of the same flexible material you'll find in the rubber seals, hoses and insulation in your car.
It is a single layer flat roofing system involving a synthetic membrane applied over the roof surface, held on with a flexible bonding adhesive.
EPDM has exceptional strength and durability, with the added benefit of being thermally insulating and water resistant. It can be manipulated to fit almost any roof shape, lasting up to 50 years.
Roofing felt is a traditional material used for covering a flat roof. It is made from bitumen that has been mixed with sand or limestone, and is often heated with a torch whilst being installed.
You may have seen roofing felt on garden sheds and outbuildings, but it is also suitable as a budget- friendly option for extensions and roof terraces.
Felt roofs have a lifespan of around 10-15 years, after which it will need replacing to maintain the weather proofing.
